The Freeman River
Hwy 33 Grizzly Tr, Fort Assiniboine, Canada
Description:
The Freeman River is a small river in the province of Alberta that flows in its west-central part. Its source is located at an altitude of 1096 meters above sea level. The river got its name in honor of a fur merchant who worked for the Hudson Bay Company and after a while decided to stay in the current area as a free hunter.
Freeman has 6 tributaries and all the way is directed to the southeast. The current carries a river near the town of Swan Hills, where an oil and natural gas field is located. Passing parallel to Alberta Highway 33, the river merges with Athabasca near Fort Assimbion.
In the history of the river saddened very unpleasant moments. In 1971, large floods destroyed bridges across the river. On one of these bridges was a University of Alberta student who worked in the Ecology Corps during the summer.
