Maligne River

607 Connaught Dr, Jasper, AB T0E 1E0, Canada

Description:

The Maligne River is one of the main tributaries of the Athabasca River in Alberta, Canada. Its source is located in the Rocky Mountains of Canada at an altitude of 2048 meters. The small Maligne River flows through Jasper National Park and merges with the Athabasca River. Maligne got its name thanks to the French hunters, it translates as "evil" or "severe", which is characteristic of the river, which has a large number of rapids.

The source of the river is fed by the melt waters of Replica Peak, from here it takes the northern direction, washing the foothills of Maria Vaux, Unwin and Charleton, after which it is cleared in the lake of the same name. The following route is laid to the northwest, where it flows into Athabasca.

Tourists are attracted to the river by a certain anomaly, since before merging the river goes underground in the area of Lake Medicine, which in the summer begins to fill with meltwater and, reaching a certain level, pours into its continuation.
