Snake Indian River

Jasper National Park, Improvement District No. 12, Canada

Description:

The Snake Indian is one of the largest tributaries of the Athabasca, which originates in Jasper National Park in Alberta, Canada. Its source is at an altitude of 2128 meters above sea level. The river is shaped like a snake that winds between mountains and forests. It is named after the eponymous tribe of Indians living on the banks of the river in the XIX century. The latter was annihilated by another tribe called the Assinbions, who attacked during a common peace festival.

The river flows in a northwest direction, then turns south. The spring is fed by the melt waters of Monte Cristo and the peaks of Calumet. Along the way there are massive waterfalls and stormy rapids, but this does not prevent visiting fishermen to do their favorite thing on the banks of the river. The river has three tributaries - Blue, Deer and Willow Creek.
