Sunwapta River
Jasper National Park, Improvement District No. 12, AB, Canada
Description:
The Sunwapta River is one of the main tributaries of the Athabasca River, which flows through the province of Alberta in Canada. The Sunwapta River spring is located at an altitude of 2037 meters near the glacial field of the Rocky Mountains of Colombia, which lies on both sides of the continental water burst. The latter is the border between Jasper National Park and Banff National Park. The river faces northwest and flows through Jasper National Park, after which it merges with the Athabasca River.
The name of the river is of Indian origin, in translation it means “stormy river”, which confirms the large number of rapids, small waterfalls and the rapid flow of the Sunwapta. The river received its name in 1892 from the geologist Clowman. On the entire length of the reservoir there are 8 tributaries.
