Jasper National Park, Connaught Dr, Jasper, Canada
Description:
The Whirlpool River is the Alberta River in Canada that flows through Jasper National Park and is one of the many tributaries of the Athabasca. It is located at an altitude of 1704 meters above sea level and originates in the mountain pass of the Canadian Rocky Mountains called Athabasca Pass, which in 1971 was declared a National Historic Landmark of Canada. At the source of the river is collected melt water ice fields of mountains Hooker and Brown.
The Whirlpool River was named by naturalist, geologist and Scottish surgeon Sir James Hector in 1859. The scientist at one time discovered the presence of a large number of vortices formed in the river, which was the reason for the corresponding name. The river runs parallel to the Moab Lake Road in Alberta to its confluence with the Athabasca River.
