Edmonton State School Museum Archive

10425 99th Ave, Edmonton, Canada

About the company:

The Edmonton State School Museum Archive was opened at McClay Avenue. The first brick was laid in 1904 by the Governor-General of Canada, Lord Minto. The school was built in Romanesque style. The first two sessions of the Alberta Legislative Assembly (1906 and 1907) were held at McClay Avenue and it was decided to make Edmonton the capital of Alberta.

The school played an important role in the educational, social and political development of Edmonton and Alberta, but when enrolment dropped to a minimum in 1983, the school was forced to close. In its place, it was decided to establish a museum-archive in order to transmit history to future generations.
