Heritage Park

Calgary, Alberta T2V 1R1, Canada

Description:

Despite the relatively short history of independent Canada, every citizen of this young country has a special pride in remembering historical events. Among the memorable places is a very special Heritage Park. It is a huge historical open-air museum spread over an area of 27 hectares. The park presents the history of Calgary from the XIX - early XX centuries. Here you can trace the history of the province up to 1914 - until the construction of the fort, which made Calgary one of the most important cities in the province of Alberta.

The gates that form the entrance to the park are made exactly in accordance with the time when the Canadian Mounted Police erected numerous forts. This was done to control and enforce order and law in what is now Alberta. In those years, the population of the province were settlers from Europe, as well as Indian tribes.

While visiting the park, you can walk along the street, decorated in the style of that era. About 400 workers walk in costumes of the late XIX century, sell souvenirs in small shops. This creates a sense of time transfer. There are real houses along the street. This is not a sham, these are real buildings that were brought from different parts of the province and carefully restored. Here you can see a pharmacy, bank, hospital, bakery, post office, insurance office. You can look into the hotel or cafe, or look out the window of the dental office.
