Description:
Edworthy Park lies in a picturesque valley on the banks of the Bow River, in the southwestern part of Calgary. This is an amazing place that has preserved historical monuments and magnificent gardens. The park on one side borders the river, and on the other almost close to the Wildwood area. Due to the huge variety of entertainment for visitors, the park is very popular at any time of the year.
Once the territory on which the park stretches, was part of the Cochrane ranch, but after a while it was bought by Thomas Edworthy. This happened in 1883. The new owner began to arrange his estate, almost immediately he planted a garden that gave fresh fruit. After the discovery of sandstone on the grounds of the estate, Edworthy organized the extraction of this building material - in those years, many buildings in Calgary were built with it. In 1962, the city bought the land to create the park.
Edworthy Park is famous for its numerous tree species. Here you can find aspens, willows, poplars and even ancient spruces, whose age exceeds 400 years. The area of the park is 1.27 square kilometers, pedestrian and bicycle trails pass through its territory, a playground is equipped, as well as places for a picnic, fire and barbecue, cozy benches and much more - all for the comfort and pleasure of visitors.
