228 8 Avenue Southeast, Calgary, AB T2P 2M5, Canada

Description:

Calgary Olympic Square was built in 1988, when the city became the capital of the XV Winter Olympics. It was here, in the city center, solemn ceremony of awarding medals to Olympic champions and prize-winners of the Games were held.

After the Olympics, the square became one of the central places of the city, where various solemn and entertainment events are regularly held. In winter, the square becomes the main city rink.

Walking through the square, tourists can see the memorial plaque, which was opened in memory of the Winter Olympic Games. The opening ceremony was attended by the then President of the Olympic Committee, the famous Juan Antonio Samaranch. The main motto of the Games is “CITIUS, ALTIUS, FORTIUS!” which means “Faster, Higher, Stronger” in Latin. In addition, granite slabs with tablets are installed on the square, on which the names of all the heroes of that Olympics are carved. And here Russian tourists have something to be proud of, because many signs are the names of our compatriots!
