The Rosedale Hanging Bridge

Drumheller, Alberta, Canada

Description:

The Rosedale Hanging Bridge ("My Star") is located nine kilometers from Drumheller.

In 1912, near the village of Rosedale, a coal mine was opened, which was located on the other bank of the Red River. To transport coal, miners had to use boats. In 1919, a rope system was installed across the river, which greatly simplified the work. It was only in 1931 that a bridge was erected that allowed miners to move freely.

The length of the bridge was 117 meters. The bridge was closed in 1957 as it became dangerous, especially during floods and high winds. In 1958, after reconstruction, the bridge was reopened.

Nowadays, the bridge is not used for its intended purpose, but is a historical site and is open to tourists.
