Miguasha National Park

Canada, Quebec Province, Miguacha West

Description:

Miguasa National Park, located at the southern tip of the Gaspe Peninsula in Canada, cannot boast of significant size, its area is only slightly more than sixty hectares. However, this narrow strip of rock along the coast attracts many visitors interested in the numerous paleontological finds that have been made in the area.

The name of the park comes from the Mikmak language and means "red rocks". Going down to the shore, you will pass along these rocks about a kilometer and a half along the so-called path of evolution. By examining the numerous fossils found in the rocks here, you will learn a little more about the history of life on our planet.

The most famous discovery associated with the Miguasa Park was the famous cystepoe fish, which is a transitional link from fish to land animals. You can get acquainted with the images and prints of this fish, named Prince Miguash, in the Museum of Natural History located in the park. The exposition of the museum also contains many other interesting paleontological exhibits.
