Koberg Island
Koberg, Baffin, Unorganized, Nunavut, Canada
Description:
Koberg Island is a relatively small island located in the Canadian Arctic archipelago. The island of 344 square kilometers is a curious place with a mountainous terrain and a height of mountains up to 823 meters, while closer to the sea the mountains abruptly break off, forming huge gorges.
The island has a rectangular shape, except for the large Marina peninsula in the eastern part. The maximum length of the island is 37 kilometers, and the width ranges from 6 to 22 kilometers. The island is also rich in glaciers, which occupy 65 percent of its territory.
The flora and fauna of the island are very rich. Here you can find an extensive population of thick-billed cairos, as well as about 30 thousand pairs of ordinary washing. In coastal zones there are sea hares, ringed seals, walruses and polar bears. There is no permanent population on the island.
