Lake Meech

Chelsea, Quebec J9B 1H9

Description:

Lake Meech is located 20 kilometers from the town of Gatineau and is named after one of the first settlers in the region - Asa Meech.

On the shore of the lake are the ruins of a former fertilizer plant built here in the 1900s. In addition, some local residents are trying to somehow build their houses on the shore of the lake, which is perceived as bayonets by the administration of the park surrounding the lake.

In 1988, a study of the lake’s waters confirmed that residents were responsible for most of the harmful substances, particularly phosphorus, entering the lake. This problem has led to abundant distribution of blue-green algae, which can not positively affect the tourist attraction of the object.
