River Peribonca

Peribonka River, Canada

Description:

The Peribonca River is a 451 kilometer long Canadian river that flows in the province of Quebec. The total area of the pool is 28200 square kilometers. The river originates in the Otis mountains at an altitude of 800 meters, near the village of the same name, and flows into Lake Saint-Jean, which, in turn, is the source for the Saguenay River. Translated from the language of the Indian tribe Montagne, the name Peribonca sounds like “river washing sand”.

The first mention of Peribonca is found in French documents of 1679. On the river there is a cascade of Perebonka hydroelectric power plant, commissioned in 2008.
