Cathedral of St. Francis Xavier

514 Racine Rue E, Chicoutimi, QC, Canada

Description:

The Catholic Cathedral of St. Francis Xavier is located in the Canadian city of Shikutimi, Quebec. There were once four different temples in this place. The Cathedral of the diocese of Shikutimi was built in 1912 in a not quite classical style, combining elements of the Romanesque and Italian Renaissance. The facade of the cathedral is decorated with two towers, on which three bells are placed. They were ordered in a famous French workshop, which is known for its special bell sound. So, the bells on the west tower sound in a clean note, and on the east - mi.

The main architect of the Cathedral of St. Francis Xavier was Alfred Armand Lamontane. Sculptures on the pediment depicting the deeds of St. Francis Xavier were performed by the famous sculptor Rudolf Goffini. Artist Louis Monti worked over the frescoes on the central dome. The central depicts Christ and the Father hovering above him, surrounded by archangels and apostles. Four medallions, oriented to the cardinal points, represent the evangelists.

In the altar part there is an ancient statue of St. Francis Xavier, made of mahogany and decorated with gold leaf.
