St. Hyacinth Cathedral
1900, rue Girouard Ouest, Saint-Hyacinthe, Quebec J2S 7B4, Canada
Description:
The Catholic Cathedral of St. Hyacinth, located in the Canadian city of St. Jacent, Quebec, was built in 1880 and consecrated in honor of St. Hyacinth. In 1900, a complete reconstruction of the temple began according to the project of Quebec architect Napoleon Bourass, who proposed to decorate the interior in the late Baroque style. As a result, the Cathedral of St. Hyacinth outside is made in a restrained neo-Gothic style, and inside represents its complete opposite.
Inside, the vaults are supported by 14 white marble columns decorated with gilding and pink marble inserts. The ceiling is decorated with three crystal multi-storey chandeliers. Stained glass in the Cathedral of St. Hyacinth appeared only in 1998. As a result of their installation, the snow-white temple was filled with rainbow glare and soft light. The organ of the Casavant Opus model has been in the cathedral since its opening, but has not been used for a long time. After the last renovation in 1998, it was used again during the Sunday service and liturgy.
