Chapel of the Blessed Virgin Mary of Lourdes

430 Sainte-Catherine Rue E Montr al, QC, Canada

Description:

In Montreal, near the metro station Berri-UQAM is the ancient chapel of the Blessed Virgin Mary of Lourdes. It was built in the late nineteenth century by priests from the Society of St. Sulpicius, who erected many Catholic churches throughout the city. The main architect of the project was Quebec architect Napoleon Bourassa.

The famous sculptures of Louis-Philippe Eber were invited to work, who created a series of beautiful wooden statues for the chapel - the Virgin Mary above the altar, the Archangel Michael in the eastern transept and St. Evangelist John in the western transept. The walls were painted by artists Toussaint-Xenophon Renaud and François-Edouard Meloche. In 1904, a statue of the Virgin Mary was presented to the chapel, covered with gold leaf. Today she decorates the entrance to the chapel.
