Phillips Square

Business Centre of Montreal, Canada

Description:

Phillips Square is a small picturesque square located in the business center of Montreal. The square is very beautiful and is considered one of the most famous city attractions.

The square is named after Thomas Phillips, a wealthy construction contractor and member of the City Council who bought the land shortly before his death. Phillips died in 1842, and his widow gave the land to the public. For a long time this area was not used, but in 1872 it was decided not to build up and turn into a beautiful square.

Today, Phillips Square is a small island of tranquility lying in the middle of the bustling Montreal.

Around the perimeter of the square is surrounded by trees, and in the center is a luxurious bronze monument to the British monarch Edward VII, who visited Montreal in 1860. The monument impresses with the skill of execution and is a noticeable decoration of Phillips Square.
