Bonsecur Market

Canada, Montreal, 350 St Paul Street East

Description:

Bonsecur Market is quite unusual in its kind, as the appearance is more like a mansion, not a retail outlet. It is a two-storey building, made in colonial style, painted in gray colors with a large dome on the main tower.

The building was built for commercial purposes from the beginning. Construction work began in 1844, architect William Funter worked on the layout of the building, but a few years later George Brown took up the work, and in 1860 the construction was completed. Even before the completion of construction work, since 1852, the city hall of Montreal was located in the building, and already in the eighties the building was given to the market.

Nowadays, the Bonsecur market has retained its original appearance and continues to work. Today there are cafes, cozy restaurants and small shops that can offer visitors a variety of goods for every taste, from jewelry to dishes and clothes.
