Perce Rock
cape Gaspe, Strait of Saint Laurent, Quebec, Canada
Description:
At the very "end of the earth" (as the name Gaspé translates) is the famous Perce rock. The unusual shape of the monolith, carved with water for centuries, made it a very attractive tourist attraction.
There is another reason for Perse’s popularity. This is a beautiful legend about pirate treasures hidden here on top of a cliff. In addition to treasure hunters, artists love the rock for its impeccable nature.
In a natural sense, the rock is a monolith about 440 meters long, 90 meters wide and about the same height. Built by ancient limestone, the age of formation dates back 350 million years. It is believed that Perce is one of the most beautiful natural arches in the world. Once there were two arches, but the smaller one collapsed in June 1845.
The rock is part of the national park "Island of Bonaventure and the Rock of Perce", protected by the state and, moreover, is a national treasure of the province of Quebec. At low tide, Perce can be reached on foot. The rest of the time, it's really an impregnable rock.
