Notre Dame of Montreal Cathedral
110 Rue Notre-Dame Ouest, Montreal, QC H2Y 2V5, Canada
Description:
In the heart of Montreal on Arts Square is the national historical landmark of Canada - the Basilica of Notre Dame - one of the most beautiful buildings in the world.
The cathedral, which can accommodate up to nine thousand parishioners, was built in 1829 by the design of James O’Donnell, an architect who revived the Gothic style. Therefore, the cathedral looks somewhat gloomy from the outside with its seventy-meter pointed bell towers pointed upwards. It is noteworthy that the ringing of one of the ten-ton bells, called Jean-Baptiste, can be heard at a distance of 25 kilometers from the temple.
The interior of the basilica is saturated with ancient luxury and amazes the imagination with the exquisite beauty of stained glass windows, altar and carvings on rare woods. About the worldly bustle makes you finally forget the music of the organ.
