Dundonald Park

Ottawa, ON K1R 5W6, Canada

Description:

Dundonald Park in Ottawa occupies an entire city block between West Summerset and Bay Street. The park is named after Count Douglas Cochrane, the twelfth Earl of Dundonald. Douglas was the last British officer to serve as Commandant of the Canadian Police. In his honor, several memorial monuments were installed in the park.

The park has several old alleys with openwork benches, winding cobbled paths and a closed playground for children. Dundonald Park is one of the greenest parks in which a natural corner is preserved by the citizens themselves. In 2004, the Friends of Dundonald Park voluntary association was formed, which constantly plants new trees on its own, and breaks wonderful flower beds in spring.

Every year, the park celebrates its birthday by organizing a general celebration. Musicians, acting groups and dance ensembles come to these events from all over the region. During the festival, the park turns into one big stage, where under the sounds of bagpipes and flutes the whole city starts dancing.
