Chaudier Bridge

Ottawa, ON K1R 6K8, Canada

Description:

Chaudyère Bridge runs over the Ottawa River and connects the capital with the town of Gatineau in Quebec. It is an extension of Booth Street, passing through the Isles of Chaudiere and Victoria. The bridge got its name thanks to the Shodière waterfalls, which are now very shallow and represent several rapids. The bridge offers excellent views of the city and the islands.

The first bridge was built in 1882 by Colonel John Bai. It was called the “Union Bridge” and connected the capital and the industrial zone located on the island of Chaudyère. For a century of its existence, wooden arches were replaced by stone spans, and in the middle of the XX century, the Chaudier Bridge became completely steel.
