Lake Dow Ottawa

Dow, Ottawa, Ontario, Canada

Description:

The railway tunnel runs under a lake that was formerly owned and operated by the Canadian Pacific Ocean. This tunnel replaced the railway that once crossed Lake Dow, formed by the creation of a dam on the north bank of the canal. This area belonged to the landowner Abraham Dow, after whom the resulting lake is named. The tunnel replaced the railway bridge above the water. At every time of the year on Lake Dow you can find entertainment to your liking.

In winter, the frozen pond turns into one large natural skating rink. And it was then that the annual Winterlude festival takes place here, where traditional bed races on ice and several other fun competitions are arranged. In spring, hundreds of thousands of tulips are planted around the lake for the annual Canadian Flower Festival, organized by the NCC Capital Commission.

In the summer you can relax in any part of the lake. Almost everywhere on the pier you can rent a boat or canoe and start on an independent journey. In the northern part of Lake Dow there are two unusual floating restaurants located right on the surface of the water.
