Monument to peacekeepers
between St. Patrick Street and Murray Street, Ottawa, Canada
Description:
The Monument to Peacekeepers in Canada is the only monument in the world dedicated to peacekeeping operations.
It was created by sculptor Jack Harman, urban designer Richard Enriquez and landscape architect Cornelius Oberlander in Ottawa. It was inaugurated on October 8, 1992, to commemorate the 110,000 Canadian soldiers who have participated in peacekeeping operations since 1948.
The monument depicts three peace-keeping soldiers, two men and a woman standing on a high point of the stone, which allegedly passes through the wreckage of war, symbolizing the resolution of the military conflict.
