Description:
The Monument to the Famous Five is located on Parliament Hill in Ottawa. The sculptural composition is dedicated to five women from Alberta, whose activities contributed to the realization of the right of women to be elected to the Canadian Senate.
The grand opening of the monument took place on October 18, 2000. A bronze monument depicts five women celebrating their victory. One of them holds a leaf on which is written a phrase in defense of women's rights. Next to the second stands an empty armchair created as an encouragement for visitors to join the heroines of the sculpture. The author of the monument is modern sculptor Barbara Peterson.
