Sculpture of Joy
59 Sparks St, Ottawa, ON K1P 5A5, Canada
Description:
The sculpture Joy, located in the Canadian city of Ottawa, was created from copper by the famous Canadian sculptor Bruce Garner (1934), who is the author of a nearby sculpture of a bear. The sculpture with such a positive name was installed in 1970 at the intersection of Sparks Street and Elgin Street, next to the parliamentary party building.
The sculpture, mounted on a granite slab and bearing a plaque with the sculptor’s name, name and date of creation, represents four naked people: two women, a man and a child, who extended their arms upwards, rejoicing in the sun and warmth. Smiles play on their faces, which explains the name of the sculpture.
