Notre Dame du Ottawa Cathedral
Description:
Notre Dame Basilica is a Catholic cathedral in Ottawa, built in neo-Gothic style. It has been a National Historic Landmark of Canada since 1990.
The cathedral was built in 1846 on the site of an old wooden church. The building is decorated with two Gothic spires made of tin, like a bell. The interior of the cathedral is much richer in appearance. It is decorated with exquisite large stained glass windows, statues of various religious figures, painted ceilings, ribbed vaults and carved altars.
After the reconstruction of 1875, new decorations and galleries appeared in the cathedral. It is worth mentioning the organs of the cathedral - there are several of them in the cathedral, the oldest dates back to 1850.
The service in the cathedral is conducted in French and English.
