Theatre of the Island
Rue Taylor, Gatineau, QC J8Y 3L9, Canada
Description:
Not far from Ottawa, in the city of Gatineau is a small municipal theater with only 300 seats. It is located on a secluded island on the Brewery Creek Channel. It can be reached by a single bridge connecting a small piece of land with Montcalm Street. The Theatre of the Island is known for its complex productions of dramatic and provocative works. The theater building is very unusual.
Until 1974 there was a water treatment plant. The industrial building retained its unusual layout and after a long restoration was transferred to the first municipal theater in Quebec.
