Hogs Back Falls

90 Hog's Back Rd, Ottawa, ON K2C 1N5, Canada

Description:

Hogs Back Falls is located in the place where the Rideau River separates the eponymous canal. In this place, a stream of water breaks off the rocks, resembling the back of a boar. Hence the name, although in fact the waterfall Hogs Back has the proud name "Prince of Wales Falls". The waterfall has an artificial origin, although the river in this place has always been quite rough and consisted of almost one rapids.

His education falls Hogs Beck owes Colonel John Bay, who in 1827 conceived the project of a large dam on the Rideau River. He set about creating a dam that would further raise the water level in the river to 18 meters and provide the city with water through a special canal. However, during the construction of the dam collapsed three times, not wanting to make the dreams of engineers a reality. Construction was completed only in 1831. It raised the water level, and a specially designed drain eventually formed the Hogs Back Falls in its present form.
