The Merickville Museum
Adjacent to The Wall of the Top Lock, Merrickville, Canada
About the company:
The Merikville Blockpoint Museum is located in a village based on the Rideau Canal.
The Rideau Canal was built by the British government in 1832 as a backup route to supply weapons and ammunition in the event of war with the United States. Four roadblocks were erected to protect the canal. The Merickville blockade is one of them. In 1960, it was under threat of demolition, but thanks to the efforts of local residents, it was decided to preserve this structure.
In 1966, a museum was opened in the checkpoint building, which houses local archives and artifacts reflecting the history of the canal and the village.
