Charlottetown Airport

Description:

Charlottetown Airport is located on the territory of the eponymous city on Prince Edward Island.

The airport has a long history. In 1912, an aircraft flown by 18-year-old American pilot Cecil Paoli landed near the Charlottetown exhibition complex. However, the construction of the airport was not considered until the early 1930s, when Jenkins, the chief physician of the city's hospital, allocated a plot of land for this purpose (probably inspired by his wife Louise's dream of becoming the first female pilot).

The airport opened on 16 January 1932 and served two runways of 850 and 400 meters. During the Second World War, the airport served as a training base for pilots. In the future, the terminal was gradually modernized and reconstructed.

After Air Canada provided nonstop flights to Montreal Trudeau, the number of flights increased dramatically.

In 2008, 282,385 people used the airport services, which was 80 percent higher than in 2002.
