Fort York
100 Garrison, Toronto, Canada | At Bathurst St.
Description:
Fort York was built in the late eighteenth century to protect the city from US attacks. Interestingly, this fort took an active and worthy part in the bloody war of 1812, and after it was almost completely destroyed. In addition, the fort survived a fire and even an explosion, after which it was restored again.
Today, Fort York is a popular museum that houses Canada’s largest collection of military artifacts. The fort consists of several buildings: here you can visit the officer’s house, designed for 4 people, where tourists will see a large common kitchen and a place for a chef to stay, as well as several neighboring buildings, which used to house a hundred people – ordinary soldiers with families.
Interestingly, the museum has preserved costumes of the past era, which tourists can try on, as well as weapons of the XIX century.
