The Temple of St. Seraphim of Sarov
111 Cactus Avenue, Toronto M2R 2V1, Ontario
Description:
In 1903, during the glorification of Father Seraphim of Sarov, several particles of his relics were separated specifically for members of the Russian imperial family. One of these particles, Olga Alexandrovna, the sister of the Passion-Bearer Tsar, with great difficulty was able to carry through the civil war-torn country and take to Canada. Here she joined the Orthodox Church in America and organized a parish of Russian-speaking Orthodox Christians.
In March 2000, at the numerous requests of parishioners, the blessing of the autocephalous Orthodox Church in America was received for the creation in Toronto of another temple in honor of St. Seraphim of Sarov, in which a piece of his relics could be placed. In 2006, a new temple on Cactus Avenue opened to the public.
