Riverdale Park
Queen St E to Danforth Ave, Toronto
Description:
Riverdale Park is located in the same area of the city on a plot of 42 hectares. There is a swimming pool, tennis courts and an outdoor hockey court.
Riverdale is an old district of Toronto, which got its name from the Don River, in the valley in which it grew up. Today, most of the district is occupied by an ancient park, which was formed after the accession of lands of farmers-settlers to the city. John Skedding, the first owner of this site, built a farm on land near the Don River Valley, some of which can still be seen in Riverdale Park. In 1856, the farmland became part of Toronto, and in 1880, a city park was opened here. Today, the total area of Riverdale is approaching 43 hectares.
The view of the park is complemented by a beautiful pedestrian bridge, built in the late XVIII century. You can get from one part of the park to another. In the southeastern part of Riverdale, Bridgepoint Hospital was built, in front of which is a monument to Sun Yat-sen, the founder of the Kuomintang Party in China, whose political views have gained wide popularity in Canada.
