St. Michael's Cathedral
200 Church St., Toronto, Canada | At Shuter St.
Description:
St. Michael's Cathedral is a Romanesque Catholic cathedral, one of the oldest churches in Toronto.
The Cathedral of St. Michael is located on the Church Square. The church was built by William Thomas between 1845 and 1848 and financed by Irish migrants. The cathedral was founded on May 8 by Bishop Power, at the same time the cathedral received its current name. In the walls of the cathedral were also laid fragments of the stone pillar of the old Norman Cathedral in England.
It is noteworthy that it is in this cathedral that Catholic daily radio broadcasts are recorded at 17:30. It is also home to the largest English Catholic diocese in Canada. The current Archbishop is Thomas Christopher Collins, who took office on December 16, 2006.
It is also interesting that the cathedral cooperates with the world-famous choral school of St. Michael, which is based next door. The church choir sings in the cathedral every Saturday and Sunday throughout the school year.
