Casa Loma Castle

1 Austin Terrace, Toronto, ON M5R 1X8, Canada

Description:

The neo-Gothic castle of Casa Loma appeared on the northwestern outskirts of Toronto in the early 20th century. It was then that Sir Henry Pellat, a wealthy industrialist and broker, bought a plot of land there, which he gave to build the castle house of his dreams.

The work took several years and about 3.5 million Canadian dollars, about the same amount cost the interior decoration. The design of the building was not completed - this was prevented by the First World War. But even in its unfinished form, it is a model of luxury and almost royal scope. It is the largest private house in Canada with a castle of 98 rooms. Among them is a large library, an organ of 2 floors, labyrinths and secret passages – all that really makes the house look like a mysterious castle, as it was conceived by Pellot.

Over time, the owner went bankrupt, the castle was abandoned, but later passed into the possession of the municipality. Now there is a museum with an exhibition about the life of Henry Pellot and his wife. Also, solemn public and private events are often held here, and even films are shot.

As expected, the castle is surrounded by a garden, the possessions also have stables and a hunting lodge.
