Historic District Factory
55 Mill Street, Toronto, Canada
Description:
The factory of the Historic District in Toronto is assembled in one building in a large number of designer boutiques, unique cafes, craft shops, concert venues, this is a place where people go to show themselves and see others.
The red brick building was actually a liquor factory. Then it was included in the concept of reconstruction and reprofiling of production facilities and land that were no longer used for its intended purpose. Industrial facilities under this concept were to be converted into multifunctional shopping and entertainment centers.
The factory began producing alcohol in 1832. In the 1860s, it was considered the world’s largest whisky producer, mainly for export. By the end of the XX century, it lost its relevance and was closed in 1990. Now, it is not only a shopping and entertainment center, but also a monument of industrial architecture of North America.
