Campbell House Museum

160 Queen St. W., Toronto, Canada | (at University Ave.)

About the company:

Campbell House Museum is one of the best privately owned historical museums. The museum is owned and operated by the Campbell House Foundation. It is not only the original Campbell mansion, but also all the interiors with furniture, lamps, paintings and a huge fund of thousands of documentary materials, personal letters and photographs. Campbell House Museum is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

The Campbell House Museum is the only building in downtown Toronto that has survived from the ancient city of York. It belonged to the Supreme Justice of Canada, Sir William Campbell, and his wife, Hannah, in 1822. This mansion was built in the style of Palladio architecture. For most of the XIX century, the house was a private residence and a place of recreation and entertainment for the local nobility. In the early twentieth century, it was used for office space and factories, until a non-profit organization bought it into its property and made it an open museum.
