Toronto Central Railway Station
Description:
Toronto Central Station is the city’s main transportation hub. It is located in the heart of the city, in the southern part of the financial district. In addition to its role in the Canadian transport system, the station building is an architectural monument.
The very first building of the train station in Toronto was built in 1858 and did not stand for two decades - it was demolished in 1871. It was subsequently restored and rebuilt several times. Construction of the modern station building began in 1914 and was delayed for several years, due to the outbreak of the First World War and the financial crisis and the resulting shortage of construction materials and labor. The grand opening of the station building took place only in 1927.
Toronto Station is the largest railway station in Canada. After a large-scale reconstruction carried out in the late 70s of the twentieth century, the building began to live a new life. Lushly decorated interiors allow you to compare it with a real palace in the eclectic style of "Bozar". The design of the building combines a tent roof, vaulted windows, decorative friezes. Thanks to the outstanding work of the architects, the Toronto station is recognized as a national treasure and one of the best examples of the Bozar style in Canada.
