Sun Yat-sen Chinese Garden

Dr. Sun Yat-Sen Classical Chinese Garden, Carrall Street 578

Description:

To see a traditional Chinese garden, you don’t have to fly to China. Recently, many craftsmen create a piece of their homeland in other countries. There are at least ten beautiful gardens created outside the country. The first such park was the Sun Yat-sen Chinese Garden, located in Vancouver. Built in 1985, it is still considered one of the best works of landscape design in the world.

One of the symbols of the partnership between China and Canada was the decision to create a classic garden during the Ming dynasty. These countries needed a venue for international cultural events, so the garden was truly perfect. Created in honor of one of China’s most revered revolutionaries, it serves as a permanent venue for festivals and folk music evenings. It took just a year to implement the project of famous architects Joe Wai and Don Vaughan. Fifty-two masters from China and Canada have turned the 0.16-hectare site into a real work of art.

The Sun Yat-sen Chinese Garden took thousands of plants and dozens of buildings were specially built using traditional Chinese technology - without the use of binders, screws or nails. At the heart of the Sam Kee Building and Kuomintang Building is the principle of balance. In 2011, National Geographic magazine awarded the Chinese Garden the first place in the ranking of the best gardens in the world.
