Queen Elizabeth Park

4600 Cambie Street, Vancouver, British Columbia V5Y 2M4, Canada

Description:

Another famous city park is located on a hill, on the so-called Little Hill. This location (the hill rises 167 meters above sea level and is the highest point in Vancouver) allows you to see the whole city in the palm of your hand. It's a spectacular sight.

The date of formation of the park is October 1949, when the mayor planted the first tree on this site. And in 1951, then Queen Elizabeth of England, who visited Vancouver, planted an English oak seedling brought here.

Since its foundation, the park has developed as a botanical garden of the city. Almost all the species of local trees are collected here, and flower gardens change the design with each new season of the year. Specialized areas are also built: an original sunken garden, a winter garden, a rose garden, as well as a golf course, tennis courts, a wedding pavilion, a cafe and even a luxury restaurant called "Seasons" (it was here that the presidents of the United States and Russia dined at the 1993 summit).

It is interesting to learn that under one of the picturesque stones of the park hidden capsule with a message to descendants from 1954. According to the will, it must be dug up and opened in not so far away 2054. Another interesting detail of the park is the old British clock - a gift to the city and the park Lyons Club.
