Sculpture "Engagement rings"

Vancouver, Canada

Description:

The Wedding Rings sculpture is one of Vancouver’s most original landmarks. The architect Dennis first presented the sculpture as part of the Sculpture Biennale Creative Festival, which took place in Vancouver in 2009-2011. At its core, the Sculpture Biennale is an open-air contemporary art museum that completely renews its exposition every two years.

The rings are made of steel, aluminum and glass. What looks like gemstones in the form of small houses are actually flashlights that emit light in the evenings from the inside thanks to the city’s power grid. The rings are located at an angle, and it seems as if they are about to lose balance. In fact, the "Engagement Rings" sit tightly on their base, symbolizing the strength of the union between a man and a woman.
