Vancouver Public Library

350 West Georgia Street, Vancouver, BC V6B 6B1, Canada

Description:

The Vancouver Public Library is a city library system with 22 branches. The system has 395,000 registered readers, who receive over 9 million different books each year. The complex of the Central Branch, which serves as the administrative center of the system, is located on the Library Square. It includes a 9-storey library, a high-rise building with offices, as well as a social service center, shops, restaurants and underground parking.

The library complex, whose architect was Moshe Safdi, is similar to the Roman Colosseum. In the rectangular building there is a book depository and there is a service area. The building is surrounded by an elliptical wall with columns - there are reading and study rooms, the entrance to which is carried out through bridges-galleries with transparent walls. The glazed internal facade of the public library overlooks a large foyer with a glass roof, simultaneously serving as a pedestrian area.
