Hatley Castle and its Gardens
Description:
Even if you’ve never been to Vancouver, you’ll definitely recognize the ancient Hatley Castle. Very often, its walls served as scenery for historical films, and beautiful gardens and parks were captured by thousands of photographers. A total of 33 films have been made here in 50 years. Here filmed "Poltergeist", the second part of "X-Men", "Out of sight" and much more.
Hatley Castle is an absolute copy of the castle of the XV century era of King Edward. It was built in 1908 as the residence of the Vice-Governor. The architect Samuel Macler built a magnificent estate of forty rooms in the Scottish Baron style. For a long time it belonged to the family, but eventually it was transferred to the government of Canada and became one of the main attractions of Vancouver.
The nearby Hatley Park has been developed for decades, and today is a series of interconnected gardens in different styles. Among them are the Japanese garden Ishiburo Kishida, the English garden Butchart and the magnificent rose garden. For several generations, the park has been looked after by a family of gardeners, with whom you can talk about the past of the castle and its guests.
