Old Market Square

Old Market Square 63 Albert St Winnipeg, MB R3B 1G3, Canada.

Description:

Old Market is located in downtown Winnipeg. The square was officially opened in 1965, but its history dates back to 1889. This year, the construction of a large public market building began here, for which this area was called Market Square.

The square soon became the center of Winnipeg's trade. Important events and ceremonies took place here.

In 1976, the Canadian Heritage Trust, which funds restoration projects in other Canadian cities, awarded a $500,000 grant to restore the most important buildings in the square, especially along Albert Street. Thus began the revival of the square.

The Old Market is mainly used for entertainment. In 1990, a stage was built on it, which was used for various summer events, such as the Jazz Festival, the Festival of Experimental Theatre and others.
