Park Haller

Malindi Rd, Mombasa, Kenya

Description:

Haller Park is located in the northern part of Mombasa, in the Bamburi district. This nature reserve was formed on the site of abandoned quarries of a cement factory.

In 1959, Rene Haller was appointed manager of the horticulture department, who was to decorate the devastated territory. At that time, of the 26 species selected on the hardened desert land, only 4 were able to take root.

Gradually, the terrain overgrown - the soil became fertile, animals and birds carried seeds. Currently, there are almost 180 species of local shrubs and trees. Haller Park is based on the principle that ecology and the economy must support each other. It should also be noted that an important part of Haller Park is fishing. In 1971, at the same time as the restoration of forests, a fish breeding project was launched.

In Haller Park you can see large turtles that are more than 100 years old, walk along the cascade of pools with fish, as well as see a large number of crocodiles, monkeys and other animals.
