St. Mark's Church
Description:
The Church of St. Mark is one of the few Orthodox churches located on the African continent. It was built by Copts, Egyptian Christians. St. Mark was the first preacher of Christianity in Africa and is considered the founder of the Coptic Church.
At the end of the 50s of the last century, all Orthodox communities of East Africa united in the Irinopol metropolis. The Metropolitan’s residence is in Nairobi, and this fact immediately raised the status of St. Mark’s Church. In 2009, Patriarch Theodore II of Alexandria and All Africa visited here.
