Description:
Mount Kenya National Park was founded in 1949. Thus, the authorities protected the lands surrounding the mountain, and preserved the entire fauna and water sources that feed the adjacent areas. In addition, the new park began to attract tourists from different countries. Its territory covers 715 square kilometers and the main part is at an altitude of 3000 meters above sea level.
Since 1997 it has been included in the UNESCO World Heritage List.
The territory of the park boasts a variety of landscape: from plains and forests to glaciers. At the same time, some part of the boundaries of the park is fenced with electric current. This is done in order to protect agricultural land from elephant raids, which often violate the boundaries of the park.
