New Year

Description:

Happy New Year!
Only the hands of the clock barely managed to move beyond the "12", as you begin to hear loud cheers of people! Under the sky, colorful umbrellas of fireworks open, and friendly companies begin to dance. It often happens that the others join one dancer with joy, and everyone begins to dance.

In Cyprus, everyone dances, from small to great, and the preservation of dance traditions is treated with special trepidation. Even modern youth are able to show the main variations of folk dances. By the way, for all the famous dance "Sirtaki" we, to our shame, accept "Zorba". This music sounds quite like folk music, and few people remember that it is a piece of music by composer Mikis Theodorakis, specially written for the Greek film Zorba the Greek (1964).

After the dance retreat - immediately to the New Year's table! Moreover, there will not wait for a large fragrant and lush New Year's cake - "vasilopita". The right to cut it belongs only to the head of the family. This cake, as in many countries of the world, is baked with a surprise inside. If anyone feels that his teeth have come across something hard, do not worry, because he is lucky!!! Now he has a chance to fulfill his dream this year! And if the desire of this person is to create a family, then let him not particularly relax from the coin found in the cake. All his attention should be paid to the meeting of Santa Claus, namely St. Basil.

Cypriots, who, in fact, celebrate holidays in our old style, celebrate the memory of St. Basil on the New Year. And Santa Claus in Cyprus is none other than Saint Basil, the patron saint of the unmarried and unmarried, through whose prayers young people find their love.

Cypriots very much believe that he enters their house invisibly and watches the state of mind with which he is greeted. Therefore, on the morning when the head of the family cuts the cake, he takes the generous piece to the church, where he divides it among the poor. The very tradition of laying a coin in a cake is directly connected with the life of St. Basil.

One day, surrounded by enemies, he hid valuable objects in loaves of bread and thus saved them. In general, the saint during his life always helped the needy, wandering and sick, because of which he gained great love among people.

Saint Basil can also enter the house in the form of the usual Santa. He will have a large bag of gifts for the children. After all, the New Year is a fabulous holiday, when not only children, but also adults, for a while become small and begin to sincerely believe in miracles!!!
